MAYA Health

MAYA Health program is MAYA’s 4th initiative which addresses the demand for quality primary Healthcare by creating a new channel of dedicated, trained, technology enabled healthcare micro-entrepreneurs called Health Entrepreneurs (HEs) who act as the last mile connect between the healthcare ecosystem and the citizens of rural-semi urban India.

MAYA Health MISSION: “To build a sustainable health ecosystem of micro entrepreneurs who focus on providing preventive and promotional health care services that is affordable to the community”

MAYA Health VISION: “A healthy community driven by empowered individuals from rural and semi urban communities who take ownership of their health through preventive health care and promote overall wellbeing.

Who are Health Entrepreneurs:

Health Entrepreneurs (HEsare selected from local community mainly women who are married and settled in the locality, with basic education qualification and an interest to work in the field of Health are chosen and trained.

What Health Entrepreneurs Do:

  1. Conduct screening for early detection of health issues such as BP, Diabetes and Anaemia at the doorsteps of the community using handheld devices.
  2. Educate communities and increase awareness on NCDs.
  3. Network and work closely with the local health ecosystem which includes local doctors, clinics hospitals, pharmacies etc.
  4. Complement and closely support all schemes and activities of the government.
  5. Deliver preventive health products and services at the doorstep of people.
  6. Are enabled by technology to collect, track, analysis and regularly provide key health information to community/clients.`

Community Health Library

A community Owned Health Knowledge Infrastructure (COwHKi) using low-cost open source and locally configurable components supporting the HEs current and emerging care work was initiated by MAYA.

11 HEs from Channapatna were identified and Several workshops were conducted to train HEs to collect stories and experience on health using audio and video recorders of their smart phones. The shared information like older women managing high BP, local fruits and herbs as medicine etc. These collected information were uploaded and HEs were introduced to computers and using of PAPAD interface. These enable community such as ASHA workers, anganawadi teachers and hsouseholds to engage with the knowledge created to learn and solve health related problems.
