MAYA has transformed the way toys are made in the Channapatna handicraft cluster

Livelihood Initiative

MAYA’s livelihood initiative is aimed at allowing people to live in dignity and to become self-reliant. In this mission MAYA has actively supported the handicraft cluster of Channapatna, Ramanagara District, Karnataka, India for the past 20 years.

Channapatna has been home to the lacware craft practiced in the region for over 200 years. It made sense to create sustainable employment in an area of their strength.

The Artisan

Lacware handcraft is an important source of livelihoods for the local population of Channapatna. About 2000 families depend on the craft for their income.

Our women artisans have produced more than 1,00,000 premium masks keeping our citizens safe, while ensuring livelihoods
